Blixtlåsprincipen, även kallad kugghjulsprincipen, ska tillämpas när det är tät trafik och två körfält eller två körbanor går samman till en körbana eller ett körfält. Blixtlåsprincipen innebär att varannan bil kör och det är ett ömsesidigt samspel som gäller.
