Roundabouts

Roundabouts exist to increase accessibility and reduce the number of accidents. You can also use roundabouts to turn safely. Drive a full lap around the roundabout and go back onto the same road that you entered from, but now in the opposite direction.

When entering a roundabout:

  1. You have a duty to give way to vehicles already on the roundabout.
  2. Unless there is a sign in place indicating otherwise, you should generally position your car in the right lane if you are turning right or driving straight on. If you are turning left, then you should generally position your vehicle in the left lane.

When exiting a roundabout:

  1. Check behind you and indicate before changing lane.
  2. Use your right indicators to signal your intention to exit the roundabout.
  3. If you cross a cycle passage, be sure to drive slowly, pay attention and give way to cyclists.
