Speed limit table

Different speed limits apply on the roads depending on what sort of vehicle or combination of vehicles you are driving. We shall now go through some of the most important speed limits that you need to be familiar with.

The fastest permitted speed limit in Sweden is 120 km/h. Vehicles permitted to drive at 120 km/h include passenger cars, light goods vehicles and light buses. Goods vehicles and buses are considered to be light if their total weight is less than 3.5 tonnes.

Heavy buses can go up to a maximum of 90 km/h.

Heavy goods vehicles can also drive at up to max 90 km/h, but only on motorways and clearways. On other roads, heavy goods vehicles may drive at up to max 80 km/h.

Motor vehicles towing a braked trailer or an unbraked light trailer can drive at up to max 80 km/h.

Heavy off-road vehicles and class I motorised equipment can drive at up to max 50 km/h.

Slow-moving vehicles and class I mopeds can drive at up to max 45 km/h. Slow moving vehicles are also known by the abbreviation SMV (LGF in Swedish).

Motor vehicles towing an unbraked trailer which does not qualify as light can drive at up to max 40 km/h.
